New York City mayor race

New York City suffered through two nice guy Democrat mayors since the early 1970’s. David Dinkins was the first Black man; Bill Di Blasio a machine cliche. Both were relatively disastrous administrators.

Socialist Zohran Mamdani will be worse.

Envision a world in which an avowed socialist can freely tax businesses and the relatively wealthy, make them pay more than the high taxes they are already paying to alleviate the undeniable affordability crisis with free public transit, subsidized rent, lower bail, housing the homeless, fewer cops, and other generous, glorious benefits.

In other words, tax the rich, redistribute wealth, hit ’em where it hurts, make Park Avenue and Wall Street pay for a better world for all. Whatever they say about moving to Florida, they’re not going anywhere.

But the big city doesn’t work that way. I was born and spent most of my life there. New York is controlled chaos. 33-year old Mamdani is a young man who will make things even more chaotic.

He has never run anything, much less a behemoth metropolis of 8.4 million people, over 200 ethnicities with a budget of well over $100,000,000; the nation’s largest police force, and biggest public school system.
His takeover of City Hall will accelerate the flight of businesses and high-end New Yorkers to Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, Texas and the Carolinas.

I hold in the highest regard the crime fighting Republican candidate for Mayor Curtis Sliwa. He would be far better than Mamdani; just as conservative Democrat, Ed Koch, and Republicans Rudy Giuliani and Mike Bloomberg were far better than DiBlasio and Dinkins.

But polls show my friend Curtis cannot win.

The only logical, prudent, responsible vote for the next mayor of New York is Andrew Cuomo. He was a good governor who was Me Too’ed; driven from office by a cascade of unfair, false and unproven allegations. He is the only grownup in the room, calm and competent and otherwise well regarded by business and labor. Save the City.

Andrew for mayor.
