April 29th, 1997. Geraldo Rivera’s namesake talk show hears the case of serial killer Carl Eugene Watts from the mother of one of his victims.
“He was sentenced for 60 years…and 7 years into his sentence I received notification he was up for parole…”
After an introduction from Judge Robert Zack describing ways inmates can secure early release, and hearing the tragedy Harriet Semander’s family suffered, we hear from Frank O’Neal. His brother’s killer was released after just 8 years of a 25 year sentence. Broward County Florida Judge Zack responds to that case individually, speaking of ‘gain time’ that inmates could gain for various behaviours inside of prison.
The consensus of the victims at the end of this segment is that any early released inmates should be at a minimum, paroled or on probation with regular check-ins.
This day, Geraldo’s television history.
