August 7th, 1996. Geraldo Rivera on his namesake talk show brings us the story of Patty, a woman who was swindled out of her life’s work by a man claiming to be in love.
“..I always said he was too good to be true. And I thought he was from Mars.”
Roger, the man of this tale, impersonated a doctor and married Patty whom had previously won the lottery. Despite performing a background check and having misgivings Roger succeeded in swindling Patty out of over $100,000.
Later in the segment Geraldo and Patty talk to Thea, Roger’s current wife. Admitting the man committed a crime with Patty, she insists their marriage is not a scam, even though only 4 years have passed.
