1996. Car breaks down in the desert, woman and her husband stuck for 10 days no food or water

September 23rd, 1996. Geraldo Rivera on his namesake talk show hosts Barbara from Texas, who took a wrong turn driving home from New Mexico. The car broke down, leaving her and her husband stranded in the desert.

“A lone cowboy, his name was Kent Clark, and he discovered us on the 10th day out there…”

Barbara describes her exploits in this experience, and how a day of rain was key to survival. Her husband who suffered from diabetes died in his sleep on the 6th day after drinking only water with no food. After she was left alone she walked further and further before more or less collapsing in a state of delusion near the Peace River.

Barbara was discovered by a search helicopter, which she originally though was a vulture. She remembers her husband in the final moments of this segment.

This day, Geraldo’s television history.
