1996. A direct appeal to bank robber Leslie Covington, then on the run: Turn yourselves in!

October 2nd, 1996. Geraldo Rivera on his namesake talk show brings us live to Atlanta after a spate of bank robberies in that area.

“..these two are kind of a real life Bonnie and Clyde. The young woman for example, is apparently so in love with her bank robber boyfriend that she’s been caught kissing him on bank surveillance cameras right in the midst of their robberies.”

The focus of this segment is an appeal to Barbara Crowe and Leslie Covington, the two accused bank robbers, to surrender peacefully. In studio we have the father of Mr. Covington, and on remote we have the sister of Barbara Crowe who both speak directly to the perpetrators and ask them to turn themselves in. Other family members and law enforcemtn also weigh in during this clip.

After an emotional appeal a representative on the scene in Atlanta lays out the details of the case, the man allegedly handed over a note saying he had a grenade and handgun before demanding cash.

This day, Geraldo’s television history.
