1994. The Hobbes family and their terrible encounter with the IRS

April 15th, 1994. Geraldo RIvera’s namesake talk show brings us from ‘IRS Horror stories’, a tale of how agents seized and intimidated.

“I asked them for a court order or a warrant, they said they didn’t need one. They were taking my vehicle….they were the IRS they could do whatever they wanted to…”

We hear about an unannounced visit by the IRS, three agents showing up at the back door. The agents survey the property and belongings and allegedly, repeatedly tell the family there they can take and do whatever because they are the IRS. We close the segment hearing from Mr. Jim Hobbes, as he responds to an audience question and claims to be taking legal action.

The IRS continues to maintain special agents and more for tax collection purposes.

This day, Geraldo’s television history.
