July 12th, 1993. Geraldo Rivera on his namesake talk show brings the spotlight onto a section of society that used to be on the fringes but no more: openly gay women. We meet Julie and Lynn of female only band Fem2Fem and hear some of their song ‘Switch’.
“What do you want me to say, I’m a closet heterosexual? I love women and just because I look like a woman it doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy being with a woman.”
We hear about their struggles in being openly lesbian, how men think they can change them, before moving on to audience questions. Is this a new era in acceptance for lesbians?
The open-minded exchange of views on this program could be sorely used in 2025’s turbulent sexual times.
This day, Geraldo’s television history.
