November 16th, 1989. Geraldo Rivera’s namesake show introduces us to transsexual lesbians, previously known as men, still attracted to women post-op.
“So when you were a man, you never had a heterosexual relationship?””No, never…I wanted ti konw what it felt like…”
We meet Renee Brede, a previous male prostitute who fell in love with one of her tricks. What started as a homosexual relationship turned into her partner paying for the operation to transition towards female. She describes being in a Psych ward where a psychologist recommended the surgery to continue life.
Moving on in the segment we hear from Dr. Richard Friend, who counsels transexuals. He describes the trend of lesbianism surfacing earlier for women, and as a result in transexuals. Kate Bornstein gets a few words in an audience member closes the segment, saying she would have no trouble meeting them as women now — but had she known them as males it would be an issue for her.
This day, Geraldo’s Television History.
