1993. A week after the World Trade Center bombing speaking to survivors

March 2nd, 1993. Five are dead, over a thousand injured and fifty thousand affected by a bomb exploding in the basement of the WTC. Geraldo Rivera talks to survivors of the attack.

“What happened was we crawled into an elevator shaft and we all hung very low, and the smoke was coming on top of us….I really wasn’t too worried, until I saw the fire…”

We hear first hand accounts from the parking garage where the blast was felt, to the upper floors where at first it seemed like a power outage before the smell of smoke and signs of catastrophe became evident.

In the confusing time immediately following this tragedy, authorities originally thought the attack could have been a transformer exploding. Six people were declared killed from the incident and several perpetrators later arrested.

This day, Geraldo’s television history.
