1991. Military brats, what’s it like when your parents are enlisted?

“Well there’s a big difference between discipline in a home, and extreme authoritarianism…”

June 7th, 1991. Geraldo Rivera on his namesake talk show hosts a panel of folks who grew up with parent/s in the military. After counting all the traveling in their childhood, they have lived collectively in 150 different homes and attended over 160 different schools.

On the panel is Mary Wertsch who interviewed over 80 ‘military children’ and wrote a book about what she found.

While stories are different there is no doubt deployment schedule and military discipline plays a profound role in shaping lives.

“…with what the military does to a man, is it makes him inaccessible to his emotion..”

This day, Geraldo’s show history.
