July 11th, 1991. Geraldo on his namesake talk show hosts two former FBI agents whom co-authored a book, ‘Boss of Bosses’ about Paul Castellano and his downfall. Joseph O’Brien and Andris Kurins investigated the Gambino crime family for over 8 years before releasing their book, and both subsequently left the Bureau.
“Mob guys, as you look at them, are just a microcosm of everyone else…”
We learn a lot in this segment not only about Mr. Castellano and his love life, habits but also mafia structure in general. These two FBI agents were responsible for a bug being planted in the Don’s home, reviewing over 600 hours of recorded audio, and they speak about their experiences.
The conversation continues to John Gotti, who at this time is in prison and embroiled in legal battles. Do the agents who gave Paul Castellano so many legal troubles feel at all responsible for his death?
Paul Castellano was shot 6 times in front of Spark’s steakhouse in 1985, as well as his driver and underboss Thomas Bilotti. John Gotti was the only person ever charged with his murder.
This day, Geraldo’s television history.
