1991. Barbara Walters secures an interview with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi during the Gulf War. He believes Saddam Hussein should withdraw from Kuwait, though he also says the multi-national coalition should get out of the Gulf.

“…if they are looking for enemies, fine, we will be enemies for those who want us to be enemies. And we will be friends, for those who want us to be friends.”

An American-led 42 country coalition liberated Kuwait by February 28, 1991.

Muammar Gaddafi was driven from power in Libya and killed in 2011.
