1991. Geraldo Rivera on his Now It Can Be Told program investigates the case of civil rights leader Harry T Moore and his wife Harriet, whom were both killed in 1951. They were killed on their 25th wedding anniversary when a bomb planted under their home exploded in Mims, Florida
“I don’t care much how I die my husband is dead, my house is destroyed…others will have to carry on.”
Largely considered an act of white Ku Klux Klan terrorism, the murder case was re-opened 3 times; 1978, 1991 at the time of this report, and in 2006. In 2006 it was pinned on 4 dead KKK members though many considered that case a ploy to win black votes.
The Moores founded a chapter of the NAACP in Florida and were heavily involved with this group, being fired from jobs for activism. Long victims of racism, many consider Mr. & Mrs. Moore some of the first civil rights martyrs.
