January 10th, 1990. Geraldo Rivera on his namesake talk show brings us statistics and horror stories committed by 35% of parolees.
“Why shouldn’t this system be completely overhauled, why shouldn’t early release be abolished if not severely restricted?
We hear from Mario Paparosi, more or less in defense of the system as it stands, who argues for credible supervision. Catherine Abate speaks against the parole system generally with a focus on finding out what’s going on in our penitentiaries as far as drug treatment and the like.
Later in the segment we hear from Louise, the tragic story of her daughter who ended up dead at the hands of a parolee released after serving 6 of 12 years. After hearing the terrible details we learn this same man is eligible to apply again for a temporary release program.
This day, Geraldo’s television history.
