1977. Geraldo Rivera on his Good Night America program introduces us to the lesser known versions of human sexuality as more and more identify alternatively.
“Homosexuals are coming out of closets in record numbers in a continual campaign to win civil rights …in colonial times…a crime so serious it was punishable by death..”
We hear quotes from the Gay American history book about the maligned history of those with alternative tastes. During the introduction we hear statistics such as 1 of out 3 men are estimated to have had a homosexual experience. Transexualism is a relatively new phenomena, and with that the guest is introduced on stage.
Christine Jorgensen is on stage, talking about her experiences beginning with medical procedures in 1952. She talks about being there in the beginning of a new sexual movement, and how at first it all just seemed like an intrusion into personal life. Chris has a basic belief that the medical procedures have changed her completely, and she hardly recognizes the person prior to. Ms. Jorgensen claims to enjoy fulfilling sexual relationships with men, since she has assumed a new identity as a woman.
We close with an aside, it is hard to know how many transexuals are in the United States, but it is known that there are more men who want to change to women than the other way around.
Christine Jorgensen was the first widely known person in the United States to have undergone sex re-assignment surgery, and her story was heard my millions. She passed away in 1989.
