May 8, 1998. 27 years ago to the day Geraldo Rivera presented the last episode of his namesake talk show. Here we see the opening montage with glimpses at memorable moments in the series, which produced over 2,200 television classics.

"...farewell to a program that has given us a glimpse into the lives of others, and hopefully made us look a little closer at ourselves."

Part of 'This day in Geraldo's History'.

In 1978 Geraldo Rivera takes up the fight for One To One charity, an organization dedicated to improving conditions for the developmentally disabled. The boxing match was not long after a major concert held for the same purpose.

1973, Geraldo Rivera, after working for 3 years as a TV news man, introduces us to possibly the first show he hosted, Good Night America. We send a thank you out to Ringo Starr and meet Geraldo's parents before moving onto what the show will be about. "A second generation TV news magazine" about life in America, the good, the bad, the ugly. It is hoped that this format allows Good Night America to take a closer look at some of the serious issues in our country, and think of ways to change them for the better. The show also takes a look at lifestyles, the good life, here in America.

This news format is sorely missed in today's soundbite culture, where perspective is sometimes lacking.

1974. Geraldo Rivera on the set of his Good Night America gets an introduction from 'The King of One-liners' Henny Youngman.

"..Raquel Welch asked me out once, in Hollywood. Of course I was in her house at the time.."

The job of journalists is to comfort the afflicted, and afflict the comfortable..

"...I'm kind of a go-between, I'm the guy that they can come to when they've tried the system out and it doesn't respond..."

We meet Arnold Diaz of WCBS-TV New York, Gail Anderson of KPRC-TV Houston and Sharon Wright of WMAQ-TV Chicago. They describe what it's like as the reporter, the responses they get when people notice cameras are there. How hard is it for the little guy to get anyone to notice when they're being mistreated? If they're not crazy or don't have a camera, nothing will change..

1991. Geraldo Rivera's Now It Can Be Told program investigates the 1000 year old Faroese tradition of the annual whale hunt. This segment starts with a recent incident on Cape Cod, where good samaritans and organizations helped rescue a pod of pilot whales. We then move on to an in-depth expose of the grindadrap process in the Faroe Islands, where locals are interested in pilot whales for exactly the opposite reason. This traditional custom may make their viking ancestors proud, but does it fit with the 21st century?

We meet principals who condemn the practice, and also travel on the water with locals who have been participating for 45 years. The detail about grindadrap in this process is essential for anyone wishing to understand.

Whale killing in this way remains controversial, though the participants have made attempts to use modern humane methods in their hunt. There are no relevant laws relating to the pilot whales and grindadrap tradition remains in some Faroe Islands communities.

1975. Geraldo Rivera on his Good Night America news program brings us the story of Arkansas Congressman Wilbur Mills, chairman of the Ways and Means committee.

"To put it simply, Wilbur was caught red-handed. He was apparently drunk and he was cheating on his own sober serious image..."

After an introduction into Congressman Wills and Annabelle Battistella, their relationship and consequences, Ms. Battistella comes on stage to give the details. She explains being caught with the congressman, their drug-fueled evening that led up to it. The conversation continues into how the two met and other details of her relationship with this powerful American politician.

Annabelle Battistella, an Argentine-American dancer, passed away in 2022.

Wilbur Mills, in his era frequently referred to as 'the most powerful man in Washington', retired from politics in 1977, and passed away in 1982.
